September is one of those lovely months when summer has not quite disappeared, but autumn is beginning to make itself known.
Warm afternoons can quickly turn into chilly evenings, mornings feel noticeably cooler and suddenly the outfits that worked perfectly a few weeks ago need just a little more thought.
For babies and children, the answer does not have to mean putting away every summer favourite and starting again. A few carefully chosen layers can carry much of their wardrobe into the new season while keeping them comfortable, practical and beautifully dressed.

Start With Knitwear
A beautiful knitted layer is probably the hardest-working piece in an autumn wardrobe.
Cardigans, knitted jumpers and softly structured jackets can be added over dresses, shirts, rompers and short sets when the temperature drops, then removed again when the day warms up.
For babies, knitted sets are particularly useful because they are comfortable enough for everyday wear but still have the traditional look many of our customers love.
Spanish and Portuguese designers are especially good at creating knitwear that coordinates with an entire collection, so a cardigan bought with one outfit will often work with several others already in the wardrobe.

Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference.
A summer dress that was worn with ankle socks and sandals can suddenly feel completely different with tights, a cardigan and Mary Jane shoes.
Likewise, boys short sets do not necessarily need to disappear as soon as September arrives. Add knee-high socks, a knitted jumper or cardigan and a smart pair of shoes and they can remain useful well into autumn.

A beautiful girls dress worn with patent shoes and an elegant headband for a celebration might later be paired with a cardigan, tights and everyday shoes.
A smart boys short set can be worn for a special occasion with traditional knee-high socks and shoes, then dressed more casually with a knitted jumper another day.
The aim is to choose special clothing without making it impractical.
Choose Pieces Worth Wearing Again
We have never believed that beautiful childrens clothing should be disposable.
Many of the Spanish and Portuguese collections we choose are based around traditional shapes and colours precisely because they do not immediately date.
Look after knitwear carefully, wash garments according to their care instructions and store special pieces properly between wears.
Good clothing should be worn, loved and, where possible, passed on.
